Flush #2

I finished Flush today and I loved It. It has a great plot and I even learned a little about the environment.

The whole book fascinated me except for the ending. It ended kind of dull an boring. My favorite part was when Noah made his escape from the boat. I like the intensity when Luno held up a gun to shoot Noah and Abbey and their mysterious grand father came and saved them.

After reading both of Carl Hiassen's books I have some questions for him.

Are you evolved in any environmental programs?

Do you have any kids? If so, what ages?

What inspired you to writ about a plot that evolves the environment

Flush

The book that we are reading as a class is called Flush, by Carl Hiaasen. It is about a kid named Noah who's dad is in jail. But his dad is in jail for sinking a giant boat!

He lives in florida and it is illegal to gamble there so they have giant casino's on boats off the land. The boat that Noah's dad sunk was a casino boat so I imagine it was pretty big. The reason why he sunk it was because the boat was dumping all of there waste into the water and that was polluting the water affecting the plants and animals.

No one new about what this boat was doing so they were getting away with it. Noah's dad decided to sink the boat so it wouldn't pollute any more. But he got a big punishment for that. He went to jail and his family wasn't very happy about that. His wife is mad because he wont let her bail him out and has been in jail a few times before.

To me that would be weird if my dad went to jail. I would feel like he was a criminal and I wouldn't have a positive romodel. I hope that noah stands up for his dad and it doesn't ruin a relationship in between them.

Speak

The book that I am reading right now is called Speak. It is about a girl who who is just starting high school.

The problem is that she is having trouble fitting in. She hasn't made any friends and tries to hang out with her old friends but they don't like her any more. She feels like an outcast.

If I could give her advise I would to tell her to just be yourself and don't try to fit in. Ounce you just act like yourself people will want to hang out with you.

Another problem she has is that she won't speak up for her self. When people pick on her she gets in to trouble because she doesn't tell what they did. Hopefully she can overcome this point in high school.

4/24

The book I have been reading is call everlost by Neal Shusterman. It is about two kids, Nick and Allie who both her in a car accident. On their way to heaven they bump into each other and land in a different world, Everlost. It is a world where you are not alive or dead. It is between life or death.

While reading this book I came across the word Adamantly. I didnt know what it meant so I looked at the words around it. I found the word denied after it so I guessed it meant- with an attitude and I was right.

Throughout this book there are a lot of challenging words and you have to use context clue in order to understand the book better.

While Nick and Allie are in everlost they find out that they cant feel any pain. They are practically ghost in a world no one knows about. No one has ever escaped from everlost but Nick and Allie are determined to.

I would be really confused if I was in a world where you not living or dead. Every thing around is the same and will never change. I would be freaked out, wouldn't you?

Reading Log #2

The book that I have been reading this week is called Wringer by Jary Spinneli. It is kind of a sad book. First let me tell what a wringer is. At the annual fair the town has, thousands of pigeons are released. Then hunter shoot them down for fun. It's pretty brutal. Most of the birds die instantly but some of them fall injured. While they try to wobble away boys come out and break its neck. They are called the wringers. They break their necks to take them out of their misery.

In a small town there lives a boy named Palmer. He has just had a birthday and turned nine. There are three boys that live on his block named Beans, Henry, and Mutto. You might think that those are weird names but those are just their "club names". According to them when you turn nine you can join the club. The bad thing is that they are really big trouble makers. They pull lots of pranks and always get in trouble. Palmers mom doesn't really like the idea of Palmer playing with them.

Mean while Palmer finds out something horrible. When he turns ten he has to become a wringer! His dad was one and he just found out what wringers do. I would be freaked out if I were one too. He dreads the thought of becoming ten. Maybe not all birthdays are welcome.

Reading Log #1

The book I have been reading this week is called Begging for Change by Sharon G. Flake. It is about a 14 year old old girl named Raspberry  who has had a rough start to her life. Her parents are divorced, she lives with her mom in a small apartment and her dad is homeless living on the street.

While she is living with her mom they encounter some problems with their young teen age neighbor name Shekita. Her mom has tried to help the troubled girl out numerous times but she just won't listen. She smokes on her front porch, always has her friends over to do something horrible and she just doesn't stop. So, Raspberry's mom tries to put an end to all of the nonsense by taking Shekita on a walk with her to her and tries to smooth in thing out. While they are walking shekita gets tired of her and hits her on the head with a metal pipe! She is rushed to the hospital and gets about 20 stitches.

Meanwhile Raspberry's dad doesn't have it so good ether. He is living on he street and is very dirty. HE drinks a lot and is always high off drugs. I would hate it if my dad was like that. I can sort of relate this to my friends dad. His dad doesn't make that much money and and has some drinking problems. He rarely gets to see him and he doesn't enjoy it when he does.
